September 8: Celebrate the Harvest with Exotic Recipes Inspired by Chuseok

Need another twist on commemorating the harvest of your local produce? Take a Korean twist to quick and easy dinner ideas! Associated with the shamanistic traditions of the harvest moon, Chuseok is the time South Koreans visit their ancestors' tombs and offer food, drink, and harvested crops. Each good harvest is attributed to the ancestors.

Food consumed during Chuseok includes a rice cake called songpyeon, which is made of sesame seeds, black beans, mung beans, cinnamon, pine nuts, walnuts, chestnuts, jujube, and honey. It is round to resemble the harvest moon. Another traditional food includes Hangwa which some of our Dishfolio food photographers enjoy for its artistic colors and textures. This September 8, take a chance on these Korean dishes or add Korean spices to your usual fare. As these online food recipes show, there is unlimited potential to try something new this Fall!
