September 26: Start the Day Right on National Better Breakfast Day!

'Breakfast is the most important meal of the day' is a well-worn phrase, but it certainly rings true to all here at Dishfolio - especially on National Better Breakfast Day!

With this in mind, we were surprised to learn that breakfast hasn't always been considered so important. It's said that the Romans had their first meal at noon because they thought it healthier - at odds with our modern understanding of breakfast as the meal that sharpens the mind for the day ahead.

In the 20th century, there was something of a breakfast revolution as American John Harvey Kellogg invented corn flakes. There was an influx of different cereals hereafter, many of which remain popular today. In some countries, cheeses and cured meats are common breakfast dishes, while many easy breakfast recipes involve some kind of bread.

Did you know that waffles, a common breakfast treat, were first brought to the United States by settlers from the Netherlands in the early 1600s? The natives were certainly fond of them - they've been an American classic ever since!
