October 30: Enjoy Haitian-inspired Dishes on Chanté - messes in Haiti

Chanté-Messes is a Vodou festival in Haiti, which has been brought into mainstream Haitian culture through its relations to Roman Catholic Holy Days. At this festival, masses are sung in the setting of a Catholic Church, and Communion is served to those in attendance.

On Chanté-Messes, a great way to get involved with the Haitian culture is to enjoy some traditional Haitian food. Here at Dishfolio, we love to try typical Haitian food like legim, a classic Haitian vegetable stew, and tonmtonm, which includes breadfruit and a sauce made from the okra plant.

Whether you're of Haitian descent and want to observe this festival for lineage reasons, or you simply want to learn something new about a different culture, the Chanté-Messes is a great opportunity to explore a new type of cuisine. There are lots of online food recipes to inspire you bring the spirit of Haiti into your kitchen!
