October 29: Have Some Delectable Creole Dishes on Creole Day!

Creole Day is a festival which originated in St. Lucia and which celebrates Creole culture in its many forms. This festival was first held in 1984, and is always held on the last Sunday of October.

At this festival, it is tradition to enjoy some classical Creole cooking. Local people in St. Lucia eat dishes such as breadfruit, salt fish, plantains, and a stew and dumplings dish known as bouillon. Traditional Creole cooking is often very flavorsome and can be quite hot, as it includes Creole spices.

Did you know that, on Creole Day, St. Lucian Creole is the only language that can be spoken by those celebrating? Here at Dishfolio, we love the fact that Creole Day is an attempt to preserve traditions. The spices used in Creole cooking often mean that the dishes have bright, rich colors, and this food is regularly the subject of great food photography.
