Food Blogger Interview: Carolina of La Cucina Prima Donna

CarolineChirichella-LaCucinaPrimaDonna-pictureToday we're interviewing food blogger Caroline Chirichella of La Cucina Prima Donna who is creating an Italian cooking and lifestyle blog with recipes, photos, restaurant reviews, interviews with chefs, and journals of her travels to Italy! Her goal: to make real, Italian home cooking with a fun twist.

Tell us about your food blogging goals.

My goals as a food blogger are to share what I know about Italian cooking, the same way I learned it from my mother and grandmother in the kitchen. To make eating more of a whole experience and embrace the Italian lifestyle. The Italian way of eating is so different then how we eat in America, eating is a whole experience, preparing the menu, shopping for the food, cooking for hours in the kitchen and sharing your hard work with family and friends and talking about it for hours. Here we want quick foods or we eat on the go, I want to change that. By sharing my journals for my travels to Italy and family memories it gives people a little peak into my lifestyle and how much you can really embrace that.

Of innovative cooking ingredients you've tried, which was the hardest to find or use?

By far, the hardest ingredients to find for me are zucchini flowers. If you are lucky, you will find them in the spring at a farmers market, but even then it's difficult. I love zucchini flowers and eat them every chance I get in Italy, so I'm always anxious to find them here and see what fun I can have with them!

Who is your foodie hero and how do they inspire you?

I can't just pick one; it's my mother and my late grandmother. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have this passion for food and cooking. My mother always took me to different restaurants when I was little and I know that started all of this. When I was little, my grandmother would take my brother and I for lunch to a fast food place and to be honest, I hated CarolineChirichella-LaCucinaPrimaDonna-death by nutella cakeit and would ask her to make me fried cauliflower and meatballs or chicken cutlet. When she started cooking for me, it was so much fun to watch her. When I'm in the kitchen, it's a way of being closer to her.

Describe your all-time favorite recipe.

My all-time favorite recipe is my Death by Nutella Cake. I am obsessed with nutella, it's just incredible. I wanted to make a recipe with nutella, so insanely over the top, hence Death by Nutella Cake. It's made with layers of a nutella brownie, nutella mousse, nutella glaze, melted chocolate and roasted hazelnuts. The combination of textures is incredible..the brownie is chewy and fudgy, the mousse is creamy and the nuts add a great crunch.
