August 26: Make Delicious Panini Snacks on National Panini Day
There's nothing like a Panini for lunch on the go, but here at Dishfolio we were surprised to find out that the Panini has a long and complex history. A prototype for the modern Panini appeared in an Italian cookbook from the 16th century, meaning that this sandwich is over 500 years old!
Panini is the plural of the Italian word panino, which refers to a sandwich made on bread such as ciabatta or baguette. However, in English-speaking areas, a Panini today is a sandwich toasted on a Panini sandwich maker.
Did you know that Paninis only became popular in the late 20th century, thanks to hip Milanese bars serving them? Paninis are quick and simple, and you can choose lots of fillings to spice up your mealtime.
